1. Introduction Video

            The introduction video is a video of me introducing myself in thirty seconds. From this assignment I have learned how to make a video on my phone and upload it to my blog. I had to make the video, then send it to myself via email, download it on my computer, then upload it. I could not get my video to play when using Google chrome. However with the help of others, I realized I could try internet explorer or fire fox, and it worked. I will integrate my knowledge from this experience by telling my students to ask for help once they have tried every possible solution. I should have tried every form of the internet before I started asking for help; especially since the answer to my problem was simple. I believe the NETS-T standards that this project follows is number three, model digital age work and learning. This standard is teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work  processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society.




     2. Concepts Map

          My concept map was directed towards kindergarten. I made my concept map to teach kindergartens' basic shapes. My doing this project, I learned how to use this program.  I also learned how to make a concept map. The only problem I had was not being able to finish it in a short amount of time due to the fact that I couldn't use the program on any computer except the computers in the lab. However, I had to just make do. Even though it took longer then need be, I finished on time. I plan to integrate a concept map in my classroom by using it as an activity for my students to do. I believe the NETS-T standard that this project follows is number one, A. Promote, support, and model creative  and innovative thinking and inventiveness. Concept maps follows this standard because it supports the creative side of learning.




     3. Web Tools


           For the Web Tools assignment, we created a quiz, rubric, discussion question and a survey using three different websites. I learned how to use my resources for these things instead of making them on my own. There was not anything too challenging for this assignment. The website were very easy to use. They were pretty fun to use also. Since I did not really have any challenges, I did not have anything to overcome. I enjoyed playing with the websites. I plan to use these websites in the future. I think they are very beneficial when teaching. I can use all of the websites I learned about if I want to make a quiz, rubric, discussion questions or surveys. The standard this falls under is 2, c. Customize and personalize learning activates to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources. This connects with this standard because it is a way to teach to different learning styles. All students learn differently.







     4. Web page


          The web page is a website I made as if I was a teacher in a school district already. I learned how to make a web site as well as what is beneficial for my website. I did not have many challenges with this project. I learned how to do the things I did as I played with the app. I figured out everything on my own, because I just tried different things. I plan to make a webpage for my classroom in the future. I think they are very beneficial for the students and parents. The parents should always know what is going on within and out side of the classroom. I believe the NETS-T standard that the web page follows is standard 5, B. This standard is Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others. The web page and this standard go hand in had because it is community building. By making a web page, I and developing the leadership and technology skills of others also.




     5. Google Groups
 
            Google Groups is a group project we did to learn how to use Google groups, Google docs, and Google slides. This project taught me how to effectively work in groups. It also taught me how to work Google docs, groups, and slides. The most challenging part of this project to me was figuring out how to share the project with certain people. Especially when you make the project and leave someone how. Figuring out how to share after the project is made was difficult for me. I overcame this challenge by working with my group and asking them for help. I do not know how I plan to integrate this in my class room for the students, but I know I will be using Google apps for my self when I become a teacher. I believe the NETS-T standard that Google groups falls under is standard number 5. Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating  the effective use of digital tools and resources. All Google apps are to be used with a community. There for this is exhibiting leadership and professional community by using digital tools.




     6. My movie
    
          My movie was called St. Jude and Tri Delta. It was telling a story about the partnership of Tri Delta with St. Jude. This project taught me how to add pictures, move pictures, add videos, animation, music, and cut music. I do not believe I had any challenges with this project. The program is fairly easy to use, and pretty simple. I am not sure how I would integrate making a movie into my classroom. My ideal job would be kindergarten so I could make a movie for them. However, if I had older children, they could make their own movie. I believe the standard my movie falls under is standard 2, B. Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress. Allowing students to make their own movie, or teaching a lesson by using a movie is reaching out to different types of learning styles.




Course Reflection

          I have learned a lot from this course. First and foremost I have learned how important technology is nowadays and how much it is used in the classrooms. Even as young as pre school. In the classroom teachers and students are using iPads, touch screen computers, 3D printers, fancy teaching boards, etc. I have learned how to use different programs on the computers that will be very beneficial. I think my weak point is being intimidated by technology. Teachers or anyone thinks we college students know how to use all sorts of technology just because we are young. I am sure it is not hard to figure out after playing with it for a few hours, but if I was put in a classroom today I would be very intimidated by the technology. My strong suit is being able to catch on easy or figure things out easily. However, I like when someone shows me then I do it; instead of figuring it out on my own. I will improve my weak areas by doing my best to not be intimidated. I know it is ok to ask for help, but I will do my best to figure it out on my own if that can be done. The world is changing quickly into a technology based world. We do everything with technology nowadays. I know it will be in my classroom. Therfore, I will need to learn how to use it and feel comfortable using it. As far as the blogs go, I am not a fan. I do not care for blogs, nor do I see the purpse of them. I do not forsee my self using blogs in my future classroom.

The article says, "Victims tend to suffer in silence, making it difficult for parents to identify and address a problem." Social media is used A LOT among teen angers. It is easier to bully someone through texting or posting on ones page because it is not face to face contact. I am sure more then half the people who bully over the internet would not do it face to face.  The article illustrates,"that a median of 23 percent of teens reporting being targets. About 15 percent reported bullying someone online themselves."

 I like this article because it includes different links to different websites giving tips to parents with teens with depression, informing readers what depression is, and explaining why bully victims suffer in silence. It is important for parents to know and understand what depression is and what it looks like. If more people are educated on depression then we could potentially limit the amount of suicides to those who are being bullied or depressed.

UC Berkeley students file lawsuit against Google alleging illegal scanning of emails

9. UC Berkeley students have filed a lawsuit against google for intercepting emails. The article says, "As people become more aware of allegations of Google’s data mining, Gallo expects to file more cases on behalf of students from other schools using Apps for Education in addition to UC Berkeley."

Like one of the attorney's, who is filing the lawsuit on behalf of UC Berkeley said, “I think that people at a minimum should be entitled to not just the opportunity to consent, but a very prominent disclosure." I agree one hundred percent that it is our rights to have privacy. We are able to use all kinds of technology now, and communicate in all different types of ways. However, it will not ever be private when it is uploaded to the internet. Anyone can see it. Should they scan emails and use it for advertising? No, they should not. But should people do recreational drugs? No, they should not but for some reason they still do. So if it is something one does not want anyone seeing, then do not use internet.

Google invades student privacy

8. Basically as my title states, this article is about Google invading student privacy using laptop computers powered by the internet company's Chrome operating system. Google says they are doing nothing wrong, but the foundation is calling on the FTC to investigate Google and stop it from invading student privacy.

I do not agree or disagree with this article. Anything someone puts on the internet can be found whether it is by Google or a stranger. Google just may be faster at finding the information. Technology is a big part of the twenty first century, people use it all the time. Any information a person wants about another person can be found on the internet. That's just how it is now a days.

Life on Mars

7. Well, six people went to mars. There was a space architect, an engineer, three scientist, and a crew doctor. They went to Mars to learn that the people they see they cannot live without, and in the process of that they wanted to press humanity into the universe.

I really did not understand what the article was really trying to say. What I got from it was not to take ANYTHING for granted. It is very hard to imagine that every person I have laid eyes on for the past few years would be people I cannot survive without or they cannot survive without me. Just imagining life on mars is very hard to do. With that being said, do not take ANYTHING for granted, not even the people you think you will never see again.

What does research really say about iPads?

6. Basically this article was about research, done by Jeanne Carey Ingle and Tanya Moorewhead, on how effective iPad or technology is or is not in educational learning. They went about this research by training student teachers on how to use the technology with and without students around. In the end, they found that by training the teachers on how to use the technology, teachers use technology more in their everyday teaching. Because of the training, they are more confident in using the technology, which in turn helps the kids because they are engaged in learning when using the iPads, and other technology.

Just like Snap Chat, Instagram, Facebook, or any social media apps, it takes time to figure out how to use it. You do not just download the app and know everything about it. This is the same as technology. Using different types of technology in the classroom is very beneficial. However, it takes time to learn how to use it. I think if teachers were trained, they would use it more. They would be comfortable to use it in their lesson. Technology is very beneficial for all children because it accommodates for all types of learning. I defiantly agree with adding more technology in classrooms, but first have training with the teachers so they are confident when they include it in their lesson.

John Hunter

5. John Hunter is an instructor in Virginia. Basically he teaches using a game called World Peace using something he calls The Wisdom Table. He teaches gifted children. First he was unsure of what to do in gifted education, but he was told he could teach whatever he wanted to teach. There was not a curriculum. Mr. Hunter had a friend who was a film producer. He made film on Mr. Hunter and his teachings. When Mr. Hunter watches these films, he sees his teachers through him. His elementary teachers, secondary teachers, and his first teacher, his parents. This wisdom table that Mr. Hunter uses is a four foot  glass table. This game is called World Peace. He allows the students to come up with all of the crisis, and solve them.  This technique of teaching allows the students to be involved and engaged in the lesson. His way of teaching is letting the students know upfront that he does not know the answers. He is honest from the begging. He wants the students to figure out the answers. The students pretty much run the classroom. He becomes the facilitator, and lets the kids take control. Every game is played different, but the game will not end until everything is solved. Mr. Hunter says, "If only they pick up a critical tool from this game, they may save us all."

4. This article is about ten ways to engage students with technology. Using audio or video to provide feedback. Digital portfolios that can be shared and commented on by peers, teachers, and parents to encourage students to do the best they can in their works. Blended learning, social media, game-based learning, tracking progress, visual literacy, designed thinking, and reaching individuals and groups are more of the ways the article says with help the students stay engaged in learning.

I agree and disagree with this article. Personally, I am old fashion. I like to write things down. When I get feedback, I also like it written down. So visual learning, and audio or video feedback would not be for me. Teachers like to use all different kinds of technology to provide feedback like said in the article, "Google Docs, screen casts, Evernote, Livescribe pen, you name it." When every teacher uses something different, sometime it is difficult to remember where to go to find the feedback. To me, it is easier to receive a paper with written words on it. I am a hands on learner and doer. I learn best by writing things down or doing it. I want to be able to touch my notes, papers, folders, etc. On a computer, I cannot really do that. However, for some students I do agree that a digital portfolio could be successful. People do like to show off, and if everyone has access to the digital portfolio I think students would try harder to simply impress peers. I do have social media, but I do not really care for it. I do think it could work for some people, but I do not think it is for me. I am more of a game-base learner. Games are hands on and will make you do something so that helps me understand the material better. I am not the best with technology, that is why I am not really for using technology for school. Technology is a big change from the old fashion pen and paper. Like some people, I am not good with change. It will just take time for me to get used to before I can agree with using technology to help stay engaged in school.

Digital Tools Evolving to Track Students' Emotions, Mindsets

3. This article is about academic researchers developing computerized torturing systems. This system will gather information base on the students heart rate, facial expressions, posture, pupil dilation, and more. The data is analysed for signs of students engagement, boredom, or confusion. This system hopes to be able to read the data from the students and be able to help and encourage the students in the area they struggle in. It also will provide suggestions for the teacher to teach in different ways to help students learn better.

I think this is an awesome idea. Everyone learns different and sometimes teachers do not realize that. Some teachers will teach the way they learn best, and some will only teach one way. At the end of the day, a lot of students are confused or do not know the material well and most teachers do not realize that. This system will probably be some students best friends when it comes out, I know it would be mine. I think by having this technology to help students and teachers will be a huge success in the end.

A Teenager's View on Education Technology

2. In summary, this article was about how effective or ineffective technology is in education. Tablets are ineffective because the students are usually not being watched when they are using tablets, therefore there is no telling what they are doing.  Teacher websites are also ineffective when teachers make it very hard to navigate. Google classroom, Khan Academy, and Twitter are effective in education because they are user friendly. Basically this article talks about different types of technology and why it works or does not work in education.

I am not a social media-holic like she describes herself. However, I do agree with some of the things she is saying. Like her, I am an "old timey pin and paper type of gal." I like to write everything down, I learn better this way. I like a hard copy that I can personally draw on and high light things in different colors. I want a physical piece of paper to have with me and not a document saved somewhere on a computer. I do not like how all my teachers use something different. In math I used a different website than in English. All of my classes are lecture classes but everything we do is online. Teachers just expect us to know how to use these websites that are not always user friendly. Then it is hard to remember what class uses what website. For me, I liked having to write everything down and bringing physical paper to my teacher to turn in my homework or classwork. I tend to forget more about assignments that are online than the assignments that are physically handed to me on paper.

Introduction

1. My name is Myranda Gallagher. I am 19 years old from Ocean Springs, Mississippi. I am an Elementary and Special Education major. I love to dance, and play sports. I also love hanging out with my friends and family. I am a Tri Delta here at Southern. When I graduate, I would love to teach Kindergarten or Special Education.
